President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to reverse the decision taken by the Nigeria Football Federation to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire in Nigeria.
A sports administrator, Shaibu Gara-Gombe, who stated this on Tuesday in Lagos said there was a great danger in the decision taken by the NFF.
The Confederation of Africa Football suspended all home matches of Sierra Leone indefinitely due to the ravaging Ebola Virus Disease in the West African country.
All matches involving Sierra Leone in recent time are being played at neighboring cities in the region and this time Nigeria decided to host.
Gara Gombe said: “I was shocked that the NFF came out to tell Nigerians that the decision was taken after securing clearance from the World Health Organisation. It is funny because we all knew the tension in the country when we were dealing with Ebola.
“This time, a decision was taken as if we do not have government. Our borders are so porous and it is likely their fans will come to Lagos for the match. That is too risky.”
On the League Management Committee, Gara-Gombe stated that the body should be scrapped for lacking accountability and transparency.
“A referee will collect N75,000 for a match and officials who travel out on jamboree will collect N150,000 for every match. Only few people are running that place. They were supposed to stay for a year but decided to continue because they have what they are gaining from the league,” he noted.
Gara Gombe also frowned at the employment process of Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh.
“He was hurriedly employed. The former coach was sacked at about 12 midnight and 9am the next day the photograph of NFF President negotiating with Oliseh was online. He was given three months salary even before the start of the job and I wonder when that kind of situation began in Nigeria.
